School and Workplace Safety - On Demand

Schools are taking a variety of measures to improve school safety. Which of these approaches work? Which will reduce the incidence of violence in our schools and alleviate the fears of parents and children?  This presentation will address what you and your employer can do to address how to protect school children and employees.  1 clock hour available.

Brian Asmus

Director of School Safety - Central Valley School District

Brian spent 30 years as a law enforcement officer in the state of Washington, serving the communities of Yelm and Liberty Lake.  During his career, he worked as a patrol officer, patrol sergeant, administrative sergeant, commander and police chief. 

Brian was assigned to several specialty details to include D.A.R.E. instructor, police academy instructor, commander of a DEA task force operation, Secret Service Liaison officer, nationally certified domestic violence response instructor. 

He has a bachelors degree in business administration from Pacific Lutheran University, a bachelors degree in Leadership and criminal justice from Patten University, and is a graduate of the Northwest Executive Command College, and the F.B.I. National Academy.

After his retirement from law enforcement, Brian was selected as the director of school safety and security for the Central Valley School District in Spokane County. 

Brian also serves as a fire commissioner for the Spokane Valley Fire Department and volunteers on numerous boards and service organizations.  He recently started a consulting group called Elite Tactical Consultants that provides firearms training and that has branches in school safety consulting and public safety consulting.

Brian has been married to his wife Carol for 34 years and they have two daughters and 4 grandchildren. 

Outside of work, he enjoys outdoor activities, travelling and playing guitar.
